The swamp is located in a small village called Kasanje close to Entebbe town and is popular for its spectacular bird collection. Bird species like the Shoebill, Yellow Billed Stork, Woodland Kingfisher, Swamp Flycatcher, are among the varied bird types that one should expect to sight during the swamp tour.
The Shoebills are one of the favourites for most birders due to their striking features and appearances. They love to feed on fish, water snakes, frogs, rodents and snails which they actively search for in the swamp. The Lung fish also known as ‘Mabamba’ in Luganda is one of their favourites. The Swamp has about 200 varied butterfly species and is also an ideal location for fishing with fish types like Tilapia, Mudfish and Lungfish being among the most commonly sought after.
