The Uganda Community Tourism Association serves as a diverse single tourism private sector umbrella association in Uganda. UCOTA was established as a non-profit corporation limited by guarantee under Ugandan law in November 2004. UCOTA is basically a community-based tourism organisation in which local inhabitants (typically rural, impoverished, and economically marginalised) welcome visitors to visit their village in exchange for overnight lodging. Uganda's Community-based tourism allows visitors to learn about local ecosystems, culture and species while also celebrating and respecting indigenous cultures, traditions, and wisdom. A resident makes a living through working as land managers, entrepreneurs, service and product suppliers, and workers. At least a portion of the tourist revenue is put aside for projects that benefit the community as a whole. The majority of their members live on outskirts of Uganda's major national parks, wildlife reserves, and core forest reserves. UCOTA's scope of operations have grown across the country, with the local groups operating small tourism enterprises ranging from basic interpretive guiding services, craft, shops, and music, dance, and drama performances as well as the facilities available for tourists to comfortably travel and reside in the country.
