Just like any other country in East Africa, a valid passport and travel visa are mandatory to almost everyone visiting Uganda. A certificate of yellow fever vaccination is also a must have and all visitors should take malaria prophylactic drugs. The official currency used in the Country is the Uganda Shilling. To avoid inconveniences, you are always advised to carry cash in shillings since Uganda is mainly a cash economy. When it comes to exchanging your cash into Uganda Shillings, we advise that you use a Forex Exchange office in the main towns, for they have better exchange rates. All tap water should be treated as unsafe to drink, unless purified or boiled before drinking. Bottled mineral water is however, widely and readily available in the Country and cheap as well. You are therefore advised to stock up on this.
Visiting the region is now easier than ever, thanks to the East African Tourist Visa created in 2016. This special visa is valid for 90 days after arrival, allowing for multiple entries in Uganda.
